The first Iter Vitis Caucasus General Assembly

The Iter Vitis Route in Europe, a network of wine tourism destinations across 19 countries, is a cultural route of the Council of Europe and European Institute of Cultural Routes. It gives tourists the chance to experience the joy of discovering wineries and vineyards across destinations like France, Croatia, Israel, Spain, Portugal, and Georgia. The aim of this route is to narrate the history of a region and the traditions of its inhabitants through the local wine culture.

Azerbaijan joined the Iter Vitis Route at a conference in Croatia, held as part of the Iter Vitis European Cultural Route General Assembly in November 2019. Having assessed the potential of wine tourism in the Caucasus region, the European Institute of Cultural Routes and the Azerbaijan Tourism Board decided to jointly establish the Iter Vitis in the Caucasus - a wine route of the Caucasus countries. Through this route, which crosses Azerbaijan, Georgia and Russia, the member countries will take measures to promote the route on an international platform, as well as to initiate cultural and tourism exchanges between the countries. Wine societies in each country will also hold a series of inter-country training sessions on the experience and development of wine.

Azerbaijan held the first Iter Vitis Caucasus General Assembly on 27 January 2020, which approved the 2020 Action Plan for the Iter Vitis Caucasus Wine Route. Plus, experts from the European Institute of Cultural Routes and the European Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism conducted training on wine and tourism.
