Absheron-Sharab is one of the leading producers of wine and spirits in Azerbaijan. The enterprise, established in 1967, was privatised after the collapse of the Soviet Union and re-registered in 2003. Operations are spread over an area of ​​1.2 hectares in Mehdiabad settlement in Baku,  producing more than 70 varieties of wine and alcoholic beverages. Today, the winery uses both European and local grape varieties, such as Madrasa and Bayan Shira, to produce a wide range of products, including wine, brandy, vodka, whiskey, sparkling wines and fruit distillates.

 

WINE SUGGESTIONS

 

Madrasa - This red sour wine, which is a dark pomegranate colour, is produced from the Madrasa grape variety according to the classic method with traditional technology. It has a pleasant aroma and taste with hints of berries and spices. It goes well with duck, veal, lamb and various types of cheeses. Serving temperature: 16-18 °С. This wine won a silver medal at the ‘Prodexpo International Wine Competition & Guide 2021’ in Moscow.

 

Dastan – This semi-sweet pomegranate wine is a unique drink that differs from traditional wine varieties. The wine is made from the juice of fully ripe pomegranate seeds. It has an intense pomegranate aroma and keeps its fullness for a long time. It goes well with desserts and fruits. Serving temperature: 14-16˚C.

 

Nar Baghi (‘Pomegranate Garden’) – A natural product and powerful antioxidant! This semi-sweet pomegranate wine is a unique drink that differs from traditional wine varieties. Wine is made from the juice of fully ripened pomegranate seeds according to the classic method and technology. The ruby-coloured wine is distinguished by its intense pomegranate aroma and retains its unique fullness for a long time. It goes well with desserts and fruits. Serving temperature: 12-14˚C.

 

VISITING IDEAS

 

In the Absheron-Sharab winery tour, you are able to get acquainted with the winemaking technology from the first to the last stages. You will hear about the history of the factory and its different types of drinks. After familiarising yourself with all the stages, you are offered a tasting. Visitors have the option of various packages for tasting, where you can try white and red, as well as pomegranate and sparkling wines, brandy, vodka, whiskey and fruit distillates.

Absheron-Sharab wine tasting centre offers alcoholic drink sampling in the Old City. Visitors can also taste the wines here before buying them. In addition, there are various types of spirits, whiskeys, brandies and fruit distillates on sale, all produced by Absheron-Sharab.
